Sampling Factors: Location (Not Relevant: All projects are developed by teams in the same locations: Beijing, China.) Customer (Not Relevant: Although there are two types of customers — internal customer or external customer, the sampling factor “type of work” also define the type of customers served by the organization. Defining subgroups using “customer” would be redundant with that sampling factor.)
Size (Not Relevant: Projects are all similar in size — less than 20 people.)
Organizational Structure (Not Relevant: All projects are from the same division of the organization — Software R&D Business Sector)
Type of Work: Work is done differently based on project types. Two types of projects are identified: licensed product based for internal customers, or project based for external customers.
Sampling Factor Values: Product-based (Type of Work): Projects that are to develop a licensed software product for internal customers. Project-based (Type of Work): Projects that are to develop a software product to be delivered to an external customer.
Subgroups: Product-based: Projects that are of the Product-based type.
