Location (Not Relevant: Only one location – Beijing.)
Customer (Not Relevant: The OU’s products are all data warehouse and data analysis related applications. Although customers of the organization distributed in several industries, the OU develops and deliveries same set of products or partly customized products using same set of processes to all customers.)
Size (Not Relevant: Most of the projects (refer to “Type of Work”) have moderate size. Project size does not significantly influence process implementation in the OU and is not considered a management factor.)
Organizational Structure: The OU consists of two physical departments, and both of them perform some kinds of software development projects.
Type of Work: Generally, software development works organized and managed as projects. Also some urgent defect-fix or enhancement to existing software product. Maintenance will not be included because it follows a very simple process, thus is less meaningful for the process improvement. |

Product R&D Department (Organizational Structure): Development team that is responsible for product planning and development, technical platform establishment and optimizing.
Project Implementation Department (Organizational Structure): Development team that is responsible for product customization, onsite product deployment, and technical services.
Software Project (Type of Work): Works managed as project to create or upgrade a software product.
Maintenance (Type of Work): Works that fix defects for the running software product. |
