Location: This appraisal is based solely on work performed by the NGIS DES organization located in Northridge CA.
Customer: The three sampled basic units have different military customers. However, the customer does not affect the performance of the organization”s standard processes.
Size: The basic unit sizes in terms of FTEs vary; however, program or project size is not necessarily a factor in varying or tailoring performance of the standard processes.
Organizational Structure: The organization is structured functionally – Systems Engineering, Design and Development, Integration and Test, CM-DM, etc. Programs are staffed by the functional departments, which allocate resources to Integrated Program Teams. Multiple IPTs comprise a program as needed. The organization”s structure does not affect process performance or tailoring.
Type of Work: Three types of work are performed by this organization: 1) research, 2) product development, and 3) production and manufacturing. Since the organization”s standard processes are based on the CMMI-DEV (development), research and manufacturing are not in scope for this appraisal. |
