| Sampling Factors: |
Location (Not Relevant: The OU is in the same geographical location as that of the appraised organization. All the software development activities are carried out from this single location, without any influence of the same on internal processes. Thus, location is not a potential differentiator.)
Customer (Not Relevant: Projects under this OU cater to various customers. Each customer provides different requirements for the software product or application, however there is no trigger or rationale for any process change. The organization”s set of standard processes and all associated templates are used for each customer in a similar manner. Thus, customer type is not a potential differentiator.)
Size (Not Relevant: Most of the projects are of similar sized team members. There is some difference in the effort values across projects, but this in itself does not cause any significant changes to the basic internal processes of the OU. Thus, project size is not a potential differentiator.)
Organizational Structure (Not Relevant: There is a singular management structure in the OU covering software development activities. Moreover, the appropriate internal processes apply at each level of the organizational hierarchy without any deviation from the standard processes. Thus, organization structure is not a potential differentiator.)
Type of Work: The development activity for projects under this OU is either for a new product (Product Development) or is about customizing an existing software product or application as per end-user or customer requests (Customized Development). This significant difference in the type of projects affects the internal processes in the OU. The following process areas are primarily affected: REQM, RD, PP, PMC, VER, VAL thereby impacting CM, IPM and DAR. |
