Sampling Summary:
(抽样汇总)
Sampling Factors: Location (Not Relevant: Projects in the OU are executed at single location, i.e. Hyderabad. Hence location is not an influencing factor.)
Customer (Not Relevant: Projects are executed for multiple customers. Process followed by projects is consistent across types of projects and life cycles used irrespective of customer. Hence customer not an influencing factor.)
Size (Not Relevant: Projects executed in the OU are of similar size. Hence size is not an influencing factor.)
Organizational Structure (Not Relevant: OU is organized as a single unit. Projects are executed in the same unit. Hence organizational structure does not influence process.)
Type of Work: (Relevant: Type of work i.e. Development / Maintenance influences the process as two different types of projects (Development Projects & Maintenance Projects) are executed in the OU.)
Life Cycle: (Relevant: Two life cycles (Waterfall and Incremental) are followed by development projects and these life cycles influence the development process. Hence Life cycle is an influencing factor.)
Sampling Factor Values: Dev (Type of Work): Projects of software development nature.
Maint (Type of Work): Projects of software maintenance nature.
WF (Life Cycle): Software Development projects following waterfall life cycle model.
Inc (Life Cycle): Software Development projects following incremental life cycle model.
Subgroups: Dev – WF: This subgroup is responsible for software development projects using waterfall life cycle model. These projects takes a “Straight line” path. The different phases are explicitly recognized and the subsequent phase starts only after completion of the previous phase. Once the requirements are signed off, they should be stable throughout the project. Any changes to requirements will be an extraneous and unplanned activity, which will increase the schedule and cost.

Dev – Inc: This subgroup is responsible for software development projects using incremental life cycle model. The software is designed, implemented and tested incrementally until the completion. This permits gradual implementation of the software in small increments and reduces implementation risk. Completion of design for a module may result in change in baselined design and may also impact some already completed code, where in design document will be updated.

Maint: This subgroup is responsible software maintenance projects. Maintenance scope includes resolving the issues faced by the client in the application which is running and enhancing the product features based on customer request for specific additional or modification of features. This sub group is also engaged in product upgrades, fixes and improvements on a regular basis.
