| Sampling Factors: |
Location (Not Relevant: Basic Units (called DGs – Delivery Groups) are typically multi-locational (for better business/ service continuity and risk mitigation). People related processes and their implementation is not dependent on the location.)
Customer (Not Relevant: People related processes in the OU are independent of the customer. Hence customer is not a factor for sampling of basic units for the People CMM. However, the customer industry (e.g., Financial Services) is subsumed in the Organizational Structure factor.)
Size (Not Relevant: The size factor is subsumed in the Organizational Structure factor – see details in the next factor.)
Organizational Structure: The OU is divided into IGs (Industry Groups)/ AGs (Account Groups) and support groups. Each basic unit (called DG – Delivery Group) is part of an IG/ AG. IGs/ AGs can be classified into Large Sized IGs, Medium Sized IGs and Small Sized IGs.
Type of Work: This is the type of skill/ competency required to perform the work. There are four capability types – ERP (SAP, Oracle, etc.). Prog (Java, Microsoft, etc.), non-Dev (Testing, Service Management, etc.), and Emerging (SaaS, Mobility, Data Analytics, etc.). |
| Sampling Factor Values: |
Large IG/AG (Organizational Structure): Large Sized Industry/ Account Groups, with headcount more than 10K
Medium IG/AG (Organizational Structure): Medium Sized Industry/ Account Groups, , with headcount between 6K and 10K
Small IG/AG (Organizational Structure): Small Sized Industry/ Account Groups, , with headcount less than 6K
ERP (Type of Work): ERP related work like SAP, Oracle
PROG (Type of Work): Programming platforms like Java, C/C++, Microsoft, Hostcentric
Non-Dev (Type of Work): Work like software testing, production support
Emerging (Type of Work): New platforms like Analytics, SaaS, Mobility |
